THE APPROACH

HoloHub: DataMesh’s Holographic based showcase modules

In Shanghai Porsche Experience Center, DataMesh deployed a virtual 2m*7m sandbox where customers can use HoloLens to interact with the virtual cars on the runways. And different customers can wear different HoloLens and view unified content.

HoloReady with Canberra Grammar School- Future of Education

THE GOALS

  1. Improved interaction where trainer can interact with 3D models in real space and such interaction can be recorded and shared live
  2. Deep understanding and great lesson results as 3D vision can improve learning efficiency significantly
  3. Massive scale user collaboration during learning and training
  4. Interact remotely in real-time and reduce cost in making course materials

THE APPROACH

HoloReady is DataMesh’s Holographic based training and readiness platform. After understanding the specific needs from Canberra Grammar School, we built an interactive Galaxy as part of the course materials. Students can use HoloLens, tablets and laptops to interact with virtual planets in real space and teachers can record and manage the course materials. With HoloReady, students and teachers are now able to collaborate during lessons when interacting with the same 3D models in real time.

THE RESULTS 

Matthew Purcell, Head of Digital Innovation at Canberra Grammar School, pointed out that “DataMesh allowed us to create amazing third-person Spectator View videos of Microsoft HoloLens holographic content”.

As the first official trial in the world of Microsoft HoloLens in a school, Canberra Grammar School used DataMesh’s HoloReady to allow for holographic content to be captured in third-person to create stunning videos of Mixed Reality content. Students can now enjoy interactive course materials and achieve better results at the same time.

DataMesh Launched MeshExpert Series Product

May 23 #MicrosoftEvent Shanghai, Microsoft announced they would begin shipping HoloLens in China. Same day mixed reality pioneer and Microsoft partner DataMesh launched MeshExpert DataMix and MeshExpert Live!. Therefore, HoloLens fans in China can immediately experience high-quality mixed reality middleware for their future application.

In enterprise environment, the key value of Augmented Reality/Mixed Reality is to interact with dynamic and real-time data retrieved from multiple sources, combined with machine learning, artificial intelligence technology, to solve real world problems and improve efficiency. To bring value to training, inspection, city planning, design simulation and operational command system, a mature enterprise mixed reality solution must include below capabilities:

Current Mixed Reality developers focus more on storytelling and demo, however lack of understanding of real enterprise needs. As a result, those stories and demos may not apply to real production environment and difficult to be implemented. On the contrary, traditional system integrators may not have enough knowledge to connect data solution with mixed reality. There was no middleware product they can leverage in project implementation.

In China, DataMesh also has an in-depth cooperation with Zhuo Yue Education. In order to provide excellent K12 education, Zhuo Yue Education has been exploring the new model for education. Students can browse mixed reality images captured by MeshExpert Live! through different devices to significantly improve learning efficiency. Jinwei Liang, the Director of Zhuo Yue Education and Feng Bei Technology founder said in an interview that DataMesh’s MeshExpert Live! shows that mixed reality (MR) will bring education innovations and other opportunities in the future.

Introducing HoloReady: DataMesh’s Mixed Reality Training Solution

Welcome to DataMesh’s brand new blog!  This is where you’ll find all the latest news from DataMesh including new product launch, event recap and other announcements.

Since this is our first post, we want to share with you a recent article we published on the Windows Mixed Reality Developer Forum to get you more familiar with DataMesh and our mixed reality solutions. The article below is about our mixed reality training solutions HoloReady and what it was like back in March, 2017. By now, HoloReady is more mature and is ready for market.

This week, we will also launch MeshExpert Live!, DataMesh’s live mixed reality video shooting solution based on HoloLens Spectator View. We will keep you posted about the launching of MeshExpert Live!

As some of you may already seen on Youtube (A Shared Holographic Experience with HoloLens and Surface Studio https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wm68khBeSOk&t=60s ), we are working on a full mixed reality training and readiness solution based on VR HMD, Tablets, HoloLens and Spectator View. It can be used as a training tool for sales personnel, maintenance engineers, scientists and healthcare professionals.

The project idea itself originally came from an ask of a well-known industry customer. We are looking for partners to bring it to wider audience. As a by-product of this project, we also built a solid collaboration server to enable real-time shared view among devices and HoloLens Spectator View. Right now all our devs are focusing on tuning the performance of our mixed reality collaboration server software (MeshExpert) so it can support large scale device collaboration.

We are planning to release MeshExpert server and API docs to the public so other HoloLens devs can take the advantage of it when building their own solutions. This allows devs to focus on the experience design, not the backend hacks. We will offer two versions: SaaS and private deployment license. Currently it provides the following features:

  1. File Storage – think about 3D Models, Speech files, videos, pictures, music, any resource files…so you can manage and fetch them easily, through HoloLens or a web portal.
  2. Additional Speech Recognition – this is not support by current release of Windows Holographic so we added it. Leverage it by using AudioCategory. We can enable more languages later, to fill current gaps.
  3. Large scale device collaboration support – we basically built a ‘game server’ like the ones used by MMORPG, or maybe COD. We are looking at ~1K clients per server using socket, still needs validation from perf testing, but it is highly possible you hit the limitation with your WIFI APs first. We optimized the transfer of anchors, so the bandwidth usage is much smaller than what you have in the 240 demo.
  4. Sharing – we showed this at SXSW this year, you can take a picture inside your app and share it instantly on a page so your visitor can share via facebook/twitter/wechat, etc. We also support H.264 video encoding on server in case you uploaded something really huge:)
  5. Live – Yeah MeshExpert support spectator view:) You can even order HoloLens Spectator View Mount and the fully equipped workstation from us. We are using it with our customers and they feel great about the realtime 4K hologram+video output.
